Nadhim Zane, Viscount Zane, Duke of Sussex, is a British politician who served as Prime Minister of the New United Kingdom from November 2024 to January 2025. He is noted for his diverse political career, which has included roles such as Chancellor of the Exchequer, Home Secretary, and Deputy Prime Minister.
Nadhim Zane currently serves as Secretary of State for the Home Department, Culture and Inclusion under Prime Minister Alexandra Woodward. He is also the Lord Chamberlain of the Royal Household, Vice Delegate and University Chancellor of the James R. Grey University.
Zane currently resides at Woburn Abbey, and is a sitting member of the Regional Security Council, Foreign Affairs Council and the Privy Council.
Early Political Career
Zane entered politics in August 2024 as the Deputy Foreign Secretary for Diplomatic Affairs and briefly acted as Foreign Secretary in John Grandlee's absence. He was also elected as the Member of Parliament for Richmond Park shortly after that. He was appointed as the Director of Campaign for the Labour Party, by Prince Prov. He was also Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons until September 2024.
At the end of August 2024, Zane was appointed as Home Secretary until September 2024, where he was appointed as Chancellor of the Exchequer in November following Xingo’s resignation as Secretary for Finance.
Zane was subsequently made Deputy Prime Minister, after the September 2024 General Election.
Wider Political and Party Career
Zane gained prominence within the Labour Party, seen as a "rising star" among its ranks. In the September 2024 general election, Labour won a landslide victory, capturing the entire House of Commons and requiring the creation of two additional seats. Following this victory, Zane was promoted to Deputy Prime Minister, succeeding Jacob Henry Mikaelson.
When Prime Minister Prov announced his resignation in October 2024, Zane ran in the Labour Leadership election and won decisively with 83% of the membership vote, at 83% turnout. He was officially named Leader of the Labour Party and its candidate for Prime Minister in the next election. Zane was appointed as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom during the election period, known as caretaker period, succeeding Prov, who went on to become the heir apparent to the royal throne.
In the November 2024 Election, Nadhim Zane was elected as Prime Minister of the New United Kingdom; with his party capturing the whole of the House of Commons, yet again. His leadership led the Labour to the greatest election result in the history of the New United Kingdom.
Nadhim Zane stepped down as Leader of the Labour Party and defected to an independent, following a mass defection of Labour MPs to Reform, now Conservative. Following this, the Labour Party collapsed. Zane said he became independent because he wanted to allow everyone in his government, regardless of political identity.
Following on, all Labour MPs turned to Conservative - after Labour's collapse. Zane has promised to work with his former colleagues, and they agreed.
Towards the end of December 2024, Zane joined the Conservative Party, under the 'Progressive Caucus'.
Ideology
Although identifying as a conservative at base, Zane supports socialist and social democratic principles, which align with Conservative and Labour ethos.
After the dissolution of the Labour Party in December 2024, Zane was an indepdendent, until joining the Conservative Party.
Zane left the Conservative turned Union Party during the January 2025 Election campaign and defected to Sinn Féin.
Contributions to Media
In August 2024, Zane founded NUK News Central. Originally designed as a community channel, he transitioned it into a government-controlled news service, becoming its Director General by default. He was succeeded by Klaus Mikaelson, when Zane appointed him from the Cabinet Office as Deputy Prime Minister.
In December 2024, Zane left the NNC, and founded the BBC.
Honours
Zane was awarded the title Viscount Richmond (formerly Viscount Douglas) in the September End of Term Honours List, recognising his public service and his success in the flag design referendum. His entry, "The Golden Throne," emerged as the winning design.
In the November End of Term Honours List, Zane was awarded Duke of Sussex, by HRM King James I, for his 'exceptional service as Deputy Prime Minister and HRM’s Government.'
In the Christmas Honours List of 2024, Zane was awarded the Order of the Cultural Merit, for service to regional media, as well as Order of the Scientific and Educational Achievment, for service to regional education, by founding the James R. Grey University.
Zane holds the Citizen Meritorious Service Ribbon.
Zane is 6th in line to the throne.
Friends and Allies
Zane has cultivated strong political alliances, notably with former Prime Minister, Prov and renowned politician, John Grandlee, for whom he previously worked. Zane appointed Grandlee as Deputy Prime Minister when he was elected in November 2024.
Prime Ministerial Campaign
On the debut episode of Sit Down with John Grandlee on NNC One, Zane announced his intent to lead Labour’s campaign in the upcoming general election as its Prime Ministerial candidate. Zane was successful and was elected Prime Minister. Zane led his party to the largest and greatest election victory in party and NUK history.
Resignation as Prime Minister and General Election
On the 1st of January 2025, Nadhim Zane announced his resignation as Prime Minister of the New United Kingdom, due to OOC issues. An election for both the office of Prime Minister and the House of Commons was called.
Appointement as Home, Culture and Inclusion Secretary
Following the election victory of Alexandra Woodward as Prime Minister, succeeding Zane, Nadhim was appointed to cabinet, returning in his role as Home Secretary, with the added delegation of Culture and Inclusion - making him the Secretary of State for the Home Department, Culture and Inclusion.
