The Covert Operations Group (COG) is one of two tier 1 special operations units maintained by West Aurelia and is a major component of the Special Operations Command (SOCOM). Although part of the West Aurelian Army, COG operatives are handpicked from all branches of the armed forces. The West Aurelian government may not wish to be overtly associated with the unit's operations, and as such the unit's operatives may not carry any objects or clothing that would associate them with the West Aurelia.
COG is responsible for a range of special and black operations including direct action, special reconnaissance, counter-terrorism, hostage rescue, counter-insurgency, sabotage, combat diving, combat search and rescue, stay-behind operations, guerrilla warfare, and assassination.
COG is regarded as a tier 1 special operations unit, alongside the Navy's Special Activities Group (SAG).
