Susonia, officially the Democratic People's Republic of Susonia is a soverign country located in southeastern Freudia. Susonia is a highly centralized, one-party socialist state. It has consistantly been classified as authoritarian

History

Ancient / Prehistory (Before 100CE)

The area now known as Susonia was one of the first areas early humans came to. They lived mainly in the northern region of Susonia as, much like modern Susonia, the south had far less plant and animal life. Agriculture was likely brought to the area by invaders from what is now Gomatinia, as the inscriptions written in the region’s ancient tribal alphabet are found in early agriculture sites

Agricultural Development Period (100CE-700CE)

Farming developed quickly in the north regions of Susonia due to its ease of irrigation and the high fertility of the land. The southern regions of the country were rocky and had fewer easily exploited water sources, requiring a higher degree of labor to become farmable. In this time of agricultural development the various bands of people began consolidating into large tribes. The largest and by far most well known of these was the Suson tribe, who gave the country its name in most languages. Through a series of conquests and marriages the Suson would come to control all of what they considered to be their homelands.

Medieval Period (700CE-1600CE)

Under the rule of the Suson family, a feudal system was implemented which the royal family would lease land to roughly 100 wealthy families and would give them the title of lord families. These lord families would then lease lands to baron families who would lease them to peasants. Due to the deep sea and high mountains that surrounded Susonia, the region was spared from Angshire invasion unlike the rest of the western continent, though conversions did occur in the borderlands. A major civil war broke out in 951CE when King Teodaria the Third’s twin sons fought for the right to rule. The war resulted in the deaths of Prince Gallio and began the reign of King Litio the First.

Industrial Period (1600CE-1900CE)

The industrialization of Susonia was started by King Dallo, mainly as a means to outcompete the neighboring country of Celinterra in the fishing and mining industry. To help finance later industrialization, King Charletto the Second sold a large swath of, as he called it, ‘undevelopable and undesirable’ land to the nation of Pharexia. It is now known that this area and its coastal borders contain large deposits of oil deep underground. The money gained from selling this land allowed the king to buy out what was at the time Celinterra’s only major industrialized fishing company. This marked the start of increased Suson influence in Celinterra economics and politics. By the 1800’s, southern regions of Celinterra were effectively puppet states of Susonia.

The Fisher Rebellion

In 1893 at Royal Cannery in Figa tal Dera, Celinterra several Celin workers assaulted and badly injured their overseer, who was a Suson royal inspector. The workers who attacked the overseer were publicly hanged for their crimes. These deaths sparked the event now known as the Fisher Rebellion. Nearly every Celinterra city containing a royal business had the business’s building’s badly damaged or destroyed, royal inspectors beaten and killed, and locals associated with the royal family attacked. This event coincided with another major event in Susonian history, the Nine Days War.

The Nine Days War===

Post War Period In the period after the Nine Days War saw increased land ownership and economic freedom in the country, but little economic growth. Panto was elected out of office and then replaced with Guan Huldo. Huldo increased international interest in the Susonia economy, but little was felt by the public. Huldo was replaced by Auero Quillon, who was the first and so far only President to not be an ethnic Suson. Quillon oversaw major infrastructure improvements in the country. The rise of Antonio D’Alia in the People’s Unity Party came during a time of increased economic stagnation in the country.

Modern Period Marked by an increasing centralization of power in the executive branch and an isolationist policy, the Modern Period of Susonia has seen an increased rise in support of President Antonio D’Alia and the People’s Unity Party. War over resources and land is a distinct possibility in the minds of the country’s neighbors, though if the President and the Legislator are considering it, they have done a good job of hiding so. President D’Alia is reportedly on good terms with the High Duke of Klyasilia.
