Gaius Decimus Meridius is a Roman politician and former military officer who has served as a Consul of Rome since 2020. After being educated at the Roman Military Academy, Decimus Meridius served in the Roman Army, deploying to Judea Province during the New Zealot Uprising in 1994 with the Thirteenth Legion. Unlike most politically ambitious Romans, Decimus Meridius stayed in the Army after his first eight years, being assigned as Senior Tribune of the Twenty-Fourth Legion in 2000, gaining command of the Thirty-Sixth Legion in 2004. After leaving the Army in 2008, Decimus Meridius was elected a Quaestor within the Basilica Militum where her served under the Aedile for Procurement and helped oversee a wide range of procurement activity being undertaken by the Roman Military, an effort he continued from 2012 when he was elected Aedile for Procurement himself, where he oversaw the introduction of several major programmes. It surprised no one when Decimus Meridius was elected Praetor Militum in 2016, his extended military career standing him good stead for this highly placed magistracy.
During his term in office Decimus Meridius conducted a major review of Rome’s international military posture, and came to the conclusion that Rome’s power projection capabilities were at risk of being overextended without a network of overseas outposts which had been abandoned in the 20th Century as Rome pivoted it’s concern to the Mediterranean. After his election as Consul in the 2019 Consular Election, Decimus Meridus took office on 1 January 2020 and after consultation with his Co-Consul, Quintus Septimus Avitus, Decimus Meridius ordered and conducted a military operation to re-assert Roman control over several former colonial possessions.
