The Political Protection Service is a law enforcement agency in the United Kingdom of Malgrave that is tasked with the protection of politicians, their family members and foreign political guests in the country. It was merged into the Special Investigative Service following the 1938 Epping Bombing but reestablished on the 31st of December 2020 following a series of security reforms made by Prime Minister Nadzieja Brzezicki.
History
The Political Protection Service can trace its history back to 1910 when it was established during the process that resulted in the creation of the Malgravean state. It was initially tasked with both the protection of public official and investigating them for corruption and other illegal activities, however, the latter duty was given to the Office of National Integrity in 1917 following a series of public failures.
In the 1930's members of the Political Protection Service were involved in the defensive battles that took place during the Great Exodus, and a number of members from the service remained behind during the final withdrawal process that led to the evacuation of the Headquarters of the Ancestral Study Group.
After the Great Exodus the Political Protection Service saw a period of heavy activity as instability following the re-settlement of the nation resulted in a number of threats being recorded against serving politicians, at this time personal rivalries and disputes over the limited resources available also broke out between the PPS and the Internal Security Division and International Operations Committee.
In the aftermath of the 1938 Epping Bombing these rivalries and disputes were blamed for allowing the terrorist attack to nearly be successful and the responsibilities of the PPS were absorbed into the newly formed Special Investigative Service which was tasked with numerous duties during the civil war.
Following the election of Nadzieja Brzezicki as Prime Minister a serious of intelligence reforms were investigated by her government and at the end of 2020 it was announced that the Political Protection Service was to be reestablished with the SIS transformed into an umbrella agency for the benefit of inter-service coordination.
Operations
The Political Protection Service is primarily tasked with the protection of politicians in the country, in theory this includes members of the civil service as well, however, in practice due to limited resources this only includes senior politicians and those deemed to be under threat.
In its protection of foreign politicians and officials the Political Protection Service coordinates its services with equivalent branches in foreign governments, and in order to best defend politicians that travel abroad it maintains several overseas offices in allied nations with the largest of these offices being in Kurton, Kouralia.
