History
Due to their service in the War of Independence the leader of the Karatas family, Ahmed Karataş was awarded the title of Bey-nin-Çingene, ruler of the Romani people of Sharifistan. This is a tradition that has continued to this day. Since 1944, the men of the family are expected to enlist in the Royal City of Industry Rifles.
