The monarchy of Mizuho is at the core of both Mizuho's federal structure and Alexandria-style of parliamentary and constitutional democracy. The monarchy is the foundation of the executive (Empress-in-Council), legislative (Empress-in-Parliament), and judicial (Empress-on-the-Bench) branches within both federal and prefectural jurisdictions. The sovereign is the personification of the Mizuho state and is Empress of Mizuho as a matter of constitutional law. The current Mizuhan monarch is Empress Katherine II, who has reigned since 14 January 2062. Katherine's eldest daughter, Princess Autumn, is heir apparent.
The monarch is called Tennō (天皇), which translates to "heavenly sovereign" and is styled as Tennō Heika (天皇陛下; His/Her Imperial Majesty), before Katherine II all previous monarchs were called Mikado (帝).
