Constitution
The Constitution of Littland outlines a federal republic consisting of seven autonomous federal states (Delstater). Both the federation and all its states have written constitutions defining them as republican entities governed according to the principles of representative democracy. The Constitution a separation of powers into executive, legislative, and judicial branches. The executive branch consists of the "neutral" Federal President as head of state and the Prime Minister who is the head of government. The legislative branch is represented by the Folkekammer, elected directly through proportional representation, with the States participating through the Landskammer, although their power is limited to a veto-power over legislation. The judicial branch is headed by the Constitutional Court, which oversees the constitutionality of laws.
Executive
Federal President
The Head of State in Littland is the Federal President. The Prime Minister runs the government and day-to-day politics while the role of the Federal President is mostly ceremonial. The President is not obliged by Constitution to refrain from political views. They are expected to give direction to general political and societal debates, but not in a way that links them to party politics. Most Presidents were active politicians and party members prior to the office, which means that they have to change their political style when becoming president.
Prime Minister
The Prime Minister heads the federal cabinet and thus the executive branch of the federal government. They are elected by and responsible to the Folkekammer. The other members of the government are the Federal Ministers; they are chosen by the Prime Minister. The office is currently held by Albert Simonsen. The Prime Minister cannot be removed from office during a four-year term unless the Folkekammer has agreed on a successor. This constructive vote of no confidence also prevents the Prime Minister from calling a snap election.
