Rumelia (Turkish: Rumeli, Pomak: Rumeliya), officailly the Republic of Rumelia (Turkish: Rumeli Cumhuriyeti, Pomak: Republika Rumeliya), is a country in Southeast Europe. It lies on the eastern flank of the Balkans, and is bordered by Romania and Bulgaria to the north, Serbia and Vlachia to the west, Greece and Turkey to the south, and the Black Sea to the east.
Rumelia has struggled economically since democratisation, with shock therapy economics leading to poverty and inequality within Rumelia. Rumelia is a member of the United Nations, Council of Europe, WTO, NATO and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. Rumelia is also a candidate member for the European Union.
