Overview
The EliCar Championship Series is the highest class on single seat open wheel cars in Wassilia. The series competes under the Automobiles and Manufacturers of Wassilia "AMW" sanctioning body which dictates the rules and negotiates manufacturer regulations. The series was created in 1979 following the unification of the separate western Wassilian privateer based series and the eastern Wassilian based manufacturer EliCar series.
The name EliCar was given to the formula by way of the Elienople Motor Raceway and it being the ancestral home of the single seater open wheeled race car in Wassilia. To this day no other motorcar race in the country carries more prestige or importance than the Elienople 500 especially oval track races.
Structure
EliCar is the only racing formula in the world where drivers compete on three different disciplines of courses. Those bring permanent road courses, or race tracks of multiple direction corners, street courses, or temporary circuits in city centers, and oval tracks. The uniqueness brings many different challenges for drivers and teams. Championship level drivers need to perform well on all three categories to realistically be able to claim the year end trophy.
The triple crown of Elicars is achieved when a single driver wins the three most prestigious races in a season. Those races are the Grand Prix of Bursinai, the street race, which is usually the second race of the season. This is followed by the Elienople 500 Mile Race, the oval leg of the triple crown in late spring. Often the fifth round of the calendar. Then the final leg is the permanent road course, the Grand Prix of the Forests at the 6.5 km legendary Road Wassilia Race Course near the city of Vermontias which takes place in late summer.
Formula
The design of the cars and engines is regulated by AMW and rules have been created to keep costs as low as can be without sacrificing individual team engineering. Teams purchase leases to turbo V8 engines from series approved manufacturers. Those manufacturers in 2023 are Belkentrek, Hirvanis, and Vektras. An engine manufacturer must supply a minimum of 2 teams otherwise entry of the engine supplier is denied. The chassis are supplied by separate manufacturers who provide the base designs of the car per AMW rules which the teams can tweak within a set of guidelines that determine what can and cannot be altered. The two chassis suppliers are Chlorade and Lynam. Teams can choose from the current years offering or run a prior year's car.
