MalAir is a state-run company which serves as the national airline of the United Kingdom of Malgrave.
History
MalAir was established in 1922 with a stated aim to provide an alternative form of transport for prospective immigrants entering the country, as a result MalAir primarily operated a number of seaplanes and airships which could land in the newly formed country without the need for the larger infrastructure of land-based airports.
In the 1930s MalAir suffered a series of challenges, as the actions of the Imerians resulted in the company being forced to halt operations which only resumed following the success of the Great Exodus and the re-establishment of the country in 1933. Between 1933 and 1938 MalAir resumed international flights to Mystria, however, the start of the civil war resulted in these routes being halted and the company focused their efforts on regional flights.
In the course of the civil war, a majority of MalAir flights consisted of rotodyne routes between various cities and offshore research facilities, however, a small number of long-range flights took place between the mainland and some overseas territories which were being used for research, logistics and intelligence gathering operations.
In 2018 it was revealed that between 1954 and 1983 MalAir and Avro privately lobbied for an end to isolationism, with the company working with Avro on a number of commercial airliners and airships for use in international routes, a small number of which developed into the Avro Swallow and Avro Bartini.
It has been theorised that this lobbying was used to integrate MalAir as a subsidiary of MalTra as part of several structural reforms which took place in the years following the dissolution of the Socialist Republic and National Workers' Republic.
In preparation for the end of isolationism, MalAir worked with Avro on a number of new passenger aircraft and airships and started preparations for operating from newly constructed international airports, such as Nikola Tesla International Airport in Epping.
MalAir operates a number of routes across Mystria which are presently served by a mixture of hypersonic aircraft and long-range airships, with the latter also serving as luxurious cruise ships.
Fleet
MalAir operates a large fleet of aircraft which is typically divided into three main categories.
Regional Air
MalAir maintains a small number of routes within Malgrave and to nearby offshore facilities and territories, such routes are maintained by the Avro Bohr and Avro Meitner, a series of rotodynes developed specifically for these routes. In addition, a number of Avro Trident aircraft are also used for connections to more remote overseas territories.
International Air
MalAir operates a wide selection of routes in Mystria and beyond. For these routes MalAir primarily operates the Avro Swallow, a large hypersonic passenger jet that is often referred to as the pride of the company. In conjunction MalAir operates a number of Avro Tridents, although, these routes are mostly confined within the Dornalian Republic and are promoted to mostly Dornlian tourists as a retroistic and nostalgic way to travel.
Due to the sheer scale of travel MalAir also maintains the Avro Bartini, an airship which is also used by MalTra to offer cruise ship experiences to passengers. Bartini's are large airships and able to offer luxurious services to their passengers which has resulted in MalAir facing some criticism.
Freight Air
MalAir operate a number of superheavy aircraft and rotodynes which offer rapid transport services to countries around the world. In the past these aircraft have been used to ferry aid to various countries, with the most recent example being Silverdale in which several MalAir aircraft were used to drop off supplies and aid in the evacuation of vulnerable civilians.
Destinations
MalAir operates a wide number of flights to nations within and outside Mystria. Nikola Tesla International Airport presently serves as the main international hub of MalAir, however, routes from airports such as Cerne, Rensk and Aria are also popular.
