Esther Marie Steffensen (born 22 June 1949) is an Ørdegnien Labour Party politician, with a political career spanning 40 years. Beginning her career as a municipal politician in Vinterviken, she also worked for many years as a human rights lawyer, before being elected to Parliament in 1987, representing her native Skalaholt. Entering politics as a centrist self-described social liberal aligned with the Democratic Party, in subsequent years she began advocating more profressive positions, describing herself first as a social democrat, and later as a democratic socialist, joining the Labour Party following the split of the Popular Alliance of Socialists & Democrats.
