Riverton Central Railroad (Fictional Railroad)
The Riverton Central Railroad was chartered may 19th 1898 and was apart of the Orono Timber Company founded the same year in January. Construction began of a logging camp along the Blackman Creek below the Penobscot River. Though moving logs via the river was proved inefficient after a month and many lost logs in the Penobscot River the railroads construction began in Late May of 1898 and was completed on February 3rd of 1899 about 4.7 miles worth of 2 feet and 1/2 inch track was laid from the Then settlement of Riverton, Maine to the Orono Timber company Camp and, the Now Riverton Central Railroad company ran their first train in February 6th of 1899 and, was a momentous occasions for the residents of Riverton. the Railroad operated up until 1923 when most of the trees were cut down and the increase of traffic from the great war went away and was completely abandoned by october 10th 1923 taking the workers of the now shut down logging camp back home to Riverton which by 1923 was losing residents due to railroad and logging operations closing. now in the year of 2023 almost 100 years after the closing of the Riverton Central Railroad theres nothing that remains of Riverton or the Railroad all that remains is the Maine Forest and Logging Museum where the Orono Timber company's logging camp once was.
