The Senate of Austeria (Tethian: Senati i Austrisë), commonly referred to as simply Congress (Kongres), is the unicameral legislature of Austeria. According to the 1990 Constitution of Austeria, the Senate reflects the popular will of the Austerian people and thus is ultimately the supreme authority of the country.
The Senate is the direct successor of the National Congress of Austeria, the legislature of the Equalist Republic from 1947 to 1990, and inherited its functions, authority, and its common name. The Senate has the authority to direct the internal and external policies of Austeria, approving and amending the constitution and laws, approving the state budget, ratifying international treaties, granting amnesty, defining the "administrative and territorial structure" of the country, and deciding on popular referendums. It also approves the appointment of the Premier of Austeria, the Council of Ministers, and the two highest courts of Austeria. The Senate consists of 129 seats elected by single transferable vote from ten multi-member constituencies with two additional seats reserved for the Etrurian and Atudite minority communities. A member of the Senate is known as a Senator who serves a term for four years.
It is currently the 9th session of the Senate since the founding of the second republic in 1990. In the 2022 election, the ruling government maintained a one seat majority in the Senate which allowed Alexandru Minovici to remain as uncontested Premier. The next elections are scheduled for 2026.
