The Gristo-Serkonan Army (Nordic: Landforsvarsstyrker lit. 'Land Defence Forces') (Kanienʼkéha: Atëhna’dega:dëhonekwènhtara'yo:so:t lit. 'Those who bear the red banner') is a command component responsible for the operational readiness of the conventional ground forces of the Royal Gristo-Serkonan Armed Forces. As of 2020, the army is comprised of 87,342 regular soldiers and 16,900 reserve soldiers. The army is supported by 2,450 civilian employees from the civil service. It maintains regular force bases across the United Kingdom and is responsible for the Territorial Army, the largest component of the National Defence Volunteer Reserve. The commander of the Gristo-Serkonan Army and Chief of the Army Staff is Field Marshal Cristian Duarte.

The name "Gristo-Serkonan Army" came into official use during the formation of the unified armed forces of Gristol-Serkonos in 1867. During the reorganization of the Armed Forces in 1993, the army was designated as the Land Mobile Command until 2019 when it reverted to the pre-1993 title of the Gristo-Serkonan Army.

Organization

The army is divided into three divisions based on geography; 2nd Army Division is located in Gristol, the 3rd Army Division is located in Serkonos, and the 4th Army Division is located in Ohsweken. The 1st Army Division serves as a deployable headquarters to command a divisional-level deployment of Gristo-Serkonan or allied forces on operations. Brigades are organized into either Armoured, Mechanized Infantry, Airborne, Mountain Infantry or Division Support Groups consisting of eight or nine battalions.

The 1st Army Division initially served as a joint operational command and control formation to command a Division-level deployment of Gristo-Serkonan or allied forces on operations. Following the 2023 National Defence Review, the 1st Army Division is raised to a full combat-ready division consisting of two combined arms brigades, two air mobile brigades, and a support brigade. During the upgrade, the 1st Army Division is retained the 7th Communications Brigade. It is headquartered in Pontiac-Bernadotte, Capital District Region.

Equipment

Gristol-Serkonos is an industrial nation with a highly developed science and technology sector. Since its founding, Gristol-Serkonos has produced infantry fighting vehicles, anti-tank guided missile and small arms for the Army. The army currently operates 1,819 armoured fighting vehicles such as the Type 197 Main Battle Tanks and the Type 234 Armoured Personnel Carriers. It also operates 10,500 logistics and engineering vehicles such as the Type 412 Heavy Tactical Vehicle and the Type 312 Heavy Engineering Vehicle. The Gristo-Serkonan Army operates 209 artillery pieces and 80 multiple rocket artillery launcher.

The Army infantry uses the R411/A3 or the C411/A3 as the basic assault rifle with the grenadiers using the R411/A3 with an attached GL/U-40 grenade launcher and the SAW513 squad automatic weapon. The Gristo-Serkonan Army uses M-609 and the M-709 pistols.

Type 195	Arthurista	Main Battle Tank	Currently in limited service after its withdrawal from service in 1997, upgraded to Mark 4 variant. The GS Army received all Endurance MBT MK 4 stocks from Arthurista in the late 90's to arm the National Defence Volunteer Reserve's Armoured Reserve Corps. Also in use with the Internal Troops of Gristol-Serkonos or in strategic mobilization reserves. In 2019, all Endurance MBTs received a SLEP (service life extension program) upgrade from Henley Land Systems. SLEP: Upgrade package replaced the turret with a redesigned layout to accommodate improved passive applique armour and new fire control system and camera optics for the gunner, commander, and driver. Explosive reactive armour introduced on turret sides and hull skirt. A Warrior Remote Weapon System is mounted to the HMG713 machine gun.

Rank Structure

The highest attainable rank in the Gristo-Serkonan Army during peacetime is the Lieutenant General (OF-8) as the General (OF-9) rank is only attained during wartime. The Field Marshal (OF-10) rank can only be given to the officer by Parliament if they are appointed as Commander of the Gristo-Serkonan Army and Chief of the Army Staff.
