Novika is a city and municipality located in central Valkea. It is the capital of the province of Tasamaa and is mainly located on the northern bank of the Väylä River. It has a population of 623,528 within the municipality, 716,463 within the urban area, and 1,027,650 within the metropolitan area. It is the second largest urban area and the third largest city in Valkea, after the cities of Källälivi and Vuornaa.

Permanent settlement in the area dates as far back as the 8th century BC. The city started as a manorial town in the 14th century AD, belonging to the historic province of < name >. Novika quickly grew during the Industrial Revolution, becoming a major market town and industrial center. It was granted a city charter in 1856 and absorbed several nearby villages. Today, Novika is one of the most important economic and cultural centers in Valkea.

Novika is currently a major center for business, education, culture, science, and technology. Notable educational institutions include the University of Novika, Novika University of Applied Sciences, and the Novika Business School. The city has consistently ranked as a city with some of the highest standards of living throughout Valkea, as well as one of the most livable cities in Astyria. Novika is known for its cultural, ethnic, and religious diversity, with nearly a third of its population and over half of its young people coming from an immigrant background.
