Eskavia (Eskavian: Eskävut), officially the Eskavian Confederacy (Eskavian: Kopläjukvo Eskävut), is a sovereign state in Elia Boreal. It lies between the Free States to the X and the Alconian Ocean to the west.
Humanshave inhabited Eskavia for at least 12,000 years, and archeologists widely consider the region to be one of the world's cradles of civilization. Beginning in the 16th century BC, Eskavia was home to a number of complex societies including the Äiktap, Mjetlumak, and Plest. By the time Calesian explorers arrived in 15XX, most of the region was organized into a network of city-states characterized by sophisticated earthworks and an advanced road network. The Eskavian Confederacy, an alliance of five cities led by the hegemonic Kingdom of Väsjomok, was the most powerful political entity in the region and one of the most influential in Elia Boreal as a whole. Unlike most indigenous Elian societies, the Confederacy was successful in maintaining its independence during the colonial era through diplomacy, trade, and the exploitation of imperial competition between the Calesian powers. After the conclusion of the Twelve Years' War in 1785, Eskavia was brought under the protection of Waldrich in an effort to counter the rising influence of the Free States.
