Presbury (/ˈprɛsbɜːi/), officially the Free and wSovereign Province of Presbury, is a province within the Heldervinian Socialist Autocratic Reich. It borders Berush to the north, Tuujarnia to the east, and the Great Heldervinian Ocean to the south and west. Having a population of 17,837,913 and a land area of 293,934, Presbury has the lowest density per square kilometer of any province in Heldervin, at 60.68. Its capital is Presbury.

The Vrebsicourg Republic was the first country to claim and control the area of Presbury. Following a bloody war that lasted from 1849 to 1857, Presbury became part of Heldervin. After the end of the war, Presbury experienced an economically stagnant state.

Historically, the cotton, sweet potato, and timber industries have supported the Presburian economy.

History

Precolonial era

The earliest evidence of human inhabitance in modern-day Presbury was discovered in Cantorlia. Arrows and armour have been found here dating 5,000 to 3,000 BL. It is suggested that these people were hunter gatherers.

Inhabitants of the region later domesticated sweet potatoes. An archaeological site in Caligratia revealed ancient irrigation ways, likely used by the Biʻilon Civilization during the 3rd millennium BL. Extensive archaeological evidence depicts the Biʻilon Civilization having been a primarily agriculturaly based trading nation.

Colonial Era

New Vrebsicourg was the first colony of the Vrebsicourg Republic to be explored and conquered in modern-day Presbury. Around 1591, Vrebsicourgi Colonizztatores, led by Silvestro de'Consoli, first entered the territory of Presbury. The conquest of the land lasted for nearly five decades and faced major resistance from the Biʻilon Civilization.

In 1618, Pepe de'Ferri led a personal expedition in search of the then mythical Ledoniaspheric Disk. In 1620 Vito de'Lucianno broke away from de'Ferri and headed west, eventually finding a major gold deposit. Following the discovery, de'Lucianno settled the area, creating Goldston; the settlement was later seized by de'Ferri on the orders of the Vrebsicourgi President. A few years later in 1624 Vrebsicourgi missionaries evangelized the native population.

From 1629 until 1632, and again from 1637 until 1651, the Presburian Plague struck the Colonizztatores, killing approximately 90% of the 13,000. Several expeditions were led to find shorter routes from the colonies and the capital, Old Vrebsicourg, in order to transport medicines faster.
