Much of Ifa Serine's history has been predicated around being the largest city in the Imperium, a title which Citadel claimed in 1900. While the city is now the second largest by city-proper population, Ifa Serine has remained as the largest metropolitan area in the nation for almost its entire history. The rapid exodus of population between 1850-1920 was also a result of expansive rail networks connecting the outer portions of the city and its outlying towns, allowing for civilians to move into more suburban and naturally greener areas close to the city.
