Heiltsuk is the capital of and largest city of Nual. It has a population of 189,490. One of the most remote cities and national capitals in the world, Heiltsuk was founded as a tribal village thousands of years ago. When Nual became a part of the Gladysynthian empire, the city operated as the administrative center of the Nual Territory. Upon Nual's independence in 1967, Heiltsuk retained its administrative status. In 2010 the city's population reached 100,000, and in 2024 neared 190,000, making it one of the fastest growing cities by proportion in the world, spurred by support for major industries such as forest products and mining.
