Early life and education
Tyinen was born into an Irish-American family in Salem, Massachusetts, the youngest of 3 siblings. She reportedly watched the movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind in 1983, shortly after the creation of the NBAS itself, and set her sights on it "almost right away" as a child, continuing such a path into adulthood. She gained a Bachelor of Science in 1998 and was accepted into the NBAS in 1999.
Work in the NBAS
With a degree in Anthropology, Tyinen was eventually assigned to the Hominid Relocation Committee in 2000, working in various locations in Washington as part of the Committee's international agreements until 2002, when she as assigned to be a general NBAS field agent back in Massachusetts. Eventually assigned to the then-classified Walcott Commission on the Occult, where she would make a name for herself as "very skeptical, if a bit too eager." Following her work with the commission, she would move around on various cases and assignments before being selected as a delegate to the American Convention's Paranormal subsection.
