The Korea Aerospace Development Agency (KADA; Korean: 항공우주개발국), established in 1973, is the aeronautics and space agency of Joseon. Its main laboratories are located in Daejeon, in the Daedeok Science Town. KADA's vision is to continue building upon indigenous launch capabilities, strengthen national safety and public service, industrialize satellite information and applications technology, explore the outer space, and develop environmentally-friendly and highly-efficient cutting-edge aircraft and core aerospace technology.

Background

KADA was established in the 1970s to ensure that Joseon did not fall behind in the face of growing interest and investment in space development and to preempt space resources, develop science and technology, and secure new growth engines. Then-Prime Minister Park Jung-Chul strongly pushed for the establishment of KADA as a major national project promoted by his administration. A year after the KADA was decided to establish in 1972, the Joseon government officially launched KADA.

KADA succeeded in launching the first test-launched small-scale launch vehicle in 1975, and successfully launched the test-launched space launch vehicle in 1978. The successful launch of KADA's first space launch, carrying a satellite payload, came in 1981.

Developments

KADA is developing and operating the Nuri-6, a low-orbit space launch vehicle, the Nuri-7, a geostationary orbit and large payload space launch vehicle, and the Nuri-7E, a launch vehicle carrying the single-use manned spacecraft 'Ojakgyo-3'. Also, KADA is responsible for the maintenance and management of the Arion, the only manned space station owned by Joseon.
