The Marine Populaire d'Arcadie (Popular Navy of Arcadie) is the maritime arm of the République Autonome d’Arcadie, responsible for the defense of Arcadie interests and the eventual liberation of Kistavich from unspecified "hostile powers". It operates two nuclear carriers, a large surface and submersible fleet, and exhibits a notable capacity for potential global projection of power, although this is untested. It has been one of the primary military focuses of the Arcadie state, likely in response to the focus of Seuria on coastal defenses in the wake of their independence. It shares this glut of funding with the airforce.

Arcadie's navy has existed in some form since the earliest days of unified statedom, evolving from riverine navies designed to contest the control of other political leaders to Seurian-inspired fleets capable of trade and general economic opportunity across multiple oceans, with the Republican Arcadie Navy being influential during the course of the Great War, especially due to their involvement in the struggle against Kaskaida's own navy. They would be the largest source of defectors to revolutionary forces during the establishing of the Autonome d'Arcadie, which has lead to its continued prominence in a number of ways. The MPA is comprised of three main components, including the Surface Fleet, Submersible Fleet, and the Coastal Fleet - derived from earlier structures, and rather self-descriptive in regards to their own naming.

Arcadie's navy has played a role in the attempt to degrade Seurian surface assets during the beginning stages of the Great Marinian War.

History

Before Arcadie

While records on the l'Aube are slim, it is historically known that they played a role in the riverine trade of the early 1600BCE period, with trade partners including other communities within the territory of the modern day Arcadie state and the early Kaisam populations in the north. This riverine trade would be disrupted with the collapse of the l'Aube, and increasing movement away from riverine existence and towards coastal or inland developments would prevent a resurgence of the riverine trade. Despite this, naval development would continue growing, esepcially with the rise of Seurian-Arcadie trade, and especially due to the impact this trade had in regards to opening the capacity for Arcadie to create its own seafaring vessels.

While these developing skills would not be used during the course of the occupation of Arcadie, by the time of Arcadie's own occupation of Seuria they would be able to create a fleet capable of defeating Seuria's own and crossing the strait - allowing for the invasion of Seuria itself. The victory in this naval battle would see Arcadie focus to an even greater extent on naval transport, therefore allowing for early cross-sea trade with early civilization in Marquesan - causing the spread of Arcadie trade and cultural influence to that region. This would lay the groundwork for the Marquesan incorporation of Arcadie into their own language.

Pre-Republican Arcadie

Under the clan system, Arcadie would especially use the fleet for the purposes of extending the range of trade to nations like Marquesan, who it would influence to a great extent through the efforts of private traders. This trans-sea trade would bring Arcadie a notable amount of wealth, which it would use to invest into public works and other civilian efforts designed to reduce popular discontent with the control of the state by the clans, and the lacking participation of the general population within such a system. This attempt was not made for Seuria, who - despite their key role in the construction and utilization of naval vessels - would see very little investment throughout the course of their history.

Ships

Arcadie operates two Vaillant-class Aircraft Carriers, each carrying 64 aircraft by themselves. These two carriers represent the most developed aspect of Arcadie naval doctrine - that being the combined struggle of ships and aircraft in order to sight and defeat opposition forces, as initially practiced during the Great War. Alongside these two carriers, it operates 10 Étrangère-class Guided Missile Destroyers, 24 Mésange-class Frigates, six nuclear attack submarines, four ballistic missile submarines, and a number of auxiliary ships designed to allow for the expansion of the area the Arcadie fleet is capable of travelling within, including some patrol ships designed for coastal defenses.
