History
The Internal Security Directorate was formed in 2012 as part of the National Security Act of 2012 passed in the aftermath of the Norenstal Subway Bombings. It was tasked with taking on the counter-terrorism and counterintelligence activities that had formerly been the responsibility of the Federal Police. Under the act, the ISD was established as an independent agency within the Ministry of the Interior, reporting directly to the interior minister and the chancellor.
Activities
The ISD is the Kingdom's primary counterintelligence agency, responsible for preventing the infiltration of Delkoran government and economic institutions by foreign intelligence services.
The agency is also the primary counter-terrorism service of the federal government and, in this capacity, conducts surveillance against domestic organizations and individuals considered to be a threat to public safety.
ISD intelligence gathering takes numerous forms, including the use of open source intelligence, electronic surveillance, and various infiltration tactics.
