Christian Strömberg (19 July 1871 - 20 July 1930) was an Ordennyan politician and leader of the National People's Party. He served as President of Ordennya from 1919, when the military seized control of the government in the wake of the 1919 General Strike, leading a dictatorial, fascist, functionalist state until his assassination in 1930.
Early life and work
Strömberg was born to wealthy parents in an affluent area of Vastdal, to Marc Strömberg, a high-profile Conservative politician, and Valerie Strömberg. He was educated at Havenedge School, an elite, fee-paying institution, before going on to qualify as a lawyer at Vastdal Law School. He was called to the bar at 25, serving as a criminal barrister for four years before his election to Parliament as the MP for Malmo East at the 1900 general election.
In Parliament
Strömberg was a rising star on the right of a mostly moderate Conservative Party upon his election, advocating for a centralisation of powers in the hands of the executive, and the separation of the executive from the legislature. He also campaigned for a repeal of the poor laws and the Social Security Act implemented by the then-Liberal Government. He was also openly anti-Semitic, advocating for a close on all non-white immigration, a relatively non-controversial view at the time.
