The New Democratic Front is a centrist and liberal party in Kathia. Founded in 1550, it originally struggled for votes in the 1962 elections, however made large gains in 1557 and became the leading party in 1562. Since the 1560s, the New Democratic Front (VDI) has frequently been the largest party in Kathia except from 1992-2002 when the Mutualist League held the majority. Since 1592, the New Democratic Front has been the leading party in the government, and has been frequently characterized as a "Big Tent" party due to its attraction of a wide range of ideologies.

History

Following its defeat in 1542 to former General and independent politician, Acathe ce Vera, the Radical Party remained a large front in Kathia politics, despite losing several seats in the 1952 and 1957 elections. The losses became attributed to the newly founded Centre Front, which was a Center-Right party founded in 1949 by Ayre Bourszas. Both parties struggled for votes due to similar doctrines, and agreed to merge in 1550. Bourszas became the first General Secretary, until he stepped down in 1969 due to health concerns.

Curivan-Mauriszal's Prime Ministership (1562-1582)

Longtime Prime Minister and war hero, Acathe ce Vera, passed away in office in 1560. Deputy Prime Minister Kavau Vouresz took over for the next 2 years and did not run on the National People's Party ticket despite his popularity. This left the Mutualist League and VDI in the front running in the 1562 elections. Despite performing well in the Central Provinces, MS did not do well enough in the coastal provinces, where a majority of the population lived, to form a government. Mauriszal believed in a middle-road style of governing, which has remained a popular plank of VDI leadership during and after Mauirszal.

During his tenure as Prime Minitser, Mauriszale benefitted from high approval ratings. Early on, Muariszal lead a campaign to increase the share of nuclear energy in Kathia, which in 1564 was just 6%, but by the end of his tenure in 1582 it was around 50%, and the share would increase in the following decades. An attempt was made to curb inflation in the late 1560s, however it would slightly rise to 12% in 1569, but fell back to 5.7% in 1571.
