The Lumenic Legion (Nova Lumenic: Legione Lumenic) and often just referred to as the Legion, compasses the three branch of the armed forces of Luminerra; the Lumenic Army, Lumenic Air Force and the Lumenic Armada. Tracing its heritage back to the Army of the Enlightened Empire, the Lumenic Legion was officially established by Tonio II in 1296 following the final dissolution of the Enlightened Empire. The Legion is charged with the defense of the Lumenic homeland, territory and interests. The Legion is commanded by the reigning King as commander-in-chief of the armed forces, though the operation of the Legion is generally left to the appointed Legatus and his staff.
Though not considered to be part of the armed forces, the Polizia Nazionale is a militarized gendarmerie tasked with policing on the national level, and the Royal Guard is a armed forced focused solely on the protection of the monarch and royal family.
All three branches are an all volunteer force.
Army
The land component of the Lumenic Legion, the Lumenic Army (Esercito Lumenico) draws its heritage from the legions of the Enlightened Empire and is, thus, the oldest of the three branches of service in the nation. It has participated in combat operations around the world, and played an extensive role during the Omandan Continental War both in defending Luminerra against Transnapastaini invaders, and later assisting Licanan-led collation forces during a series of counteroffensives which ultimately pushed the Transnapastaini forces out of southern Omand.
Air Force
The youngest of the three branches of the Legion, the Lumenic Air Force, or the Aeronautica Luminerra, was established in 1923 as an independent branch of the military after the potential of air power on the modern battlefield was demonstrated by the Lumenic Army Air Corps during <some war>.
The Lumenic Armada, known in Luminerra as the Armata Militare, is the naval component of the Lumenic Legion. It was created in 1521 following the formal establishment of the Kingdom of Luminerra. Though the Armata Militare suffered heavily losses Omandan Continental War, including the loss of several large combat vessels, it has since returned to its pre-war stratus of a blue water force capible of projection Lumenic power and protecting Lumenic interests around the world.
