"God Defend our Gracious King" is the national anthem of Gallambria. Created by the Cambrian-born composers Peter and Corrina Thompson-Mills. It was composed on commission by the Gallambrian Government in 1895, under directions by the then Prime Minister Sir George Vincent. Other songs and marches have been influenced by "God Defend our Gracious King", such as the Royal and Vice-Regal Salutes.
Lyrics
The Lyrics of "God Defend our Gracious King" that were officially adopted in 1895, are as follows:
- Verse 1
- God Defend our Gracious King (Queen),
- May our song of freedom ring.
- Let peace reign across our lands,
- From our hills to golden sands.
- May strife never meet our shores,
- Love and peace will be our cause.
- Let our voice with courage sing,
- God Defend our Gracious King (Queen).
|
- Verse 2
- May Her beauty ever be,
- From the hills to bounding seas.
- Should our foes assail our coast,
- We shall be a gracious host.
- With our strength of unity,
- God grant us the victory.
- With Her flag raised up on high,
- May our freedom never die.
|
- Verse 3
- May the people of our lands,
- Welcome friends with open hands.
- May they witness from afar,
- Light from our Great Southern Star.
- May her laws be just and fair,
- Wealth and bounty, we will share.
- Grant us wisdom and the might,
- To defend what's true and right.
|
- Verse 4
- God of might give us the power,
- To shine in our darkest hour.
- To protect and to defend,
- That our freedom may not end.
- When our feet find rocky ground,
- Guide us till our strength be found.
- Through the trials and through the mire,
- Lead us with thy guiding fire.
