The current holder is Ilijana Valčeva, who was elected in 2015 and then re-elected in 2018. She is the first woman to be elected Minister-President in the history of the office.
The office is elected by the Assembly of the Land, following a nomination by the Monarch, via a vote of confidence . In practice, the leader of the largest party in the Assembly is almost always elected as Minister-President.
