The Kingdom of Bukoia is a sovereign nation located off the northwestern coast of Europe. The Kingdom of Bukoia consists of the island of Bukoia, the small island of Mumsey, many smaller uninhabitable islands and the town of Newport on the island of Sallia. Otherwise, the Kingdom of Bukoia is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean. The Sea of Sallia separates the islands of Sallia and Bukoia.
Bukoia is a unitary parliamentary democracy with a constitutional monarchy. The current Queen is Margaret II of Bukoia, who has reigned since 1980. Bukoia's capital city is Swington, a global city and historic centre, which has an urban area population of 1.3 million people. Swington, as well as the island of Mumsey, each have a devolved government with varying powers. Other major cities include TBA.
Following the invasion of Sallia by the Kingdom of Bukoia in the 12th century, Bukoia and Sallia fully unified in 1777, and Sallia was fully incorporated into the Kingdom of Bukoia. All of Sallia (except for Newport) seceded from Bukoia in 1917 following the Sallian War of Independence, creating the current Kingdom of Bukoia. The Kingdom of Bukoia has a very high human development index rating, ranking 25th in the world, and has a large economy. It was one of the first countries in the world to be industrialised, and it remains a great power, yielding significant influence over economic, cultural, scientific, military and political matters worldwide. The Kingdom of Bukoia yields nuclear weapons, but is not a recognised nuclear weapons state.
The Kingdom of Bukoia is largely neutral in world affairs, but is a member of the United Nations, the Council of Europe, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and the World Trade Organization. It was a member of the now defunct Bukoian Commonwealth.
Etymology
Ancient Bukoians referred to themselves as the Bukoan, which was originally a name for a Germanic tribe. They called their territory the Buken, meaning "Land of the Bukoan". By the 6th century, Bukoian became a more common term to describe the peoples of Bukoia, and the first Bukoian king, Beorthric, was crowned the "King of the Bukoians" in the 7th century. Over time, Bukoia became known as the Kingdom of the Bukoians, or just the Kingdom. King Stephen II in the 11th century was the first to be crowned "King of Bukoia", and Bukoia as a whole eventually became known as the Kingdom of Bukoia, or just Bukoia.
