Schattreiter, or commonly called the 'Nachtohner' (Night Dweller/Resident), is a mischievous humanoid Bösepenst that inhabits the Homeland of TECT and is primarily active at night. As a dweller of the night; Schattreiter is described to prefer night over daytime activity (like all Bösepenst, but Schattreiter's case is special) and will usually hide in dark shades or dark areas during the day. Schattreiter is a mischievous former human who often invades homes to loot or occupy the home when nobody is home; it is also a shade manipulating Bösepenst, often trapping humans in total darkness or shade for various purposes. This same ability is used by Schattreiter to travel in public areas without being seen or to pass through walls or doors. Even though Schattreiter dislikes humans to a lesser extent, its primary targets are other Bösepenst; mostly to fight, gain reputation, revenge, and to protect its claimed territory from invaders (the Homeland). Besides its known trait to be shady; Schattreiter is famous for stealing things he fancies, such as riches or possessions -- it is often prone to laziness and has talent for leading & recruiting other Bösepenst to its cause. If Schattreiter is not lazing about, drinking/partying, occupying a home, or stealing from humans -- he is fighting other Bösepenst or protecting its territory.

Schattreiter is detailed often as a charismatic youthful young man who wears luxurious robes stolen from a noble's wardrobe. It is taller than humans and has a unique hair style that easily distinguishes it from humans. Its main abilities of using shadows was said to make it invisible to anyone "if not paying close enough attention." Humans would often not notice it walk by or sense another presence in the room; often using its ability to steal luxurious possessions, money, liquor, and especially stealing meals from food tenders. Schattreiter's most famous trait is its ability to draw fellow Bösepenst to its side and lead them into battle -- or to perform other dark deeds, such as robbing entire cities or invading other regions. Schattreiter was a famous creature in the Homeland, feared not for its strength but for its influence over fellow Bösepenst and for making the night dangerous for both humans and Unmen. It is noteworthy that Schattreiter isn't close to being the physically strongest nor most unique of Bösepenst; it combats others by using intelligence, ability, and through leading allies. Schattreiter was not famous for hunting humans without good reason or provocation; in fact, it often interacted with humans in the form of relationships and attending clubs (old brothels where drinking and games were played, along with whoring) to drink.

Schattreiter is often said to be the leader of all Bösepenst; though other prominent candidates can be named, but often are not mentioned because of their lack of following. He is the Supreme Commander of his own Nachtparade, the 'Homelandish Nachtparade', which numbered over one-hundred and twenty Bösepenst that originate in the Homeland. His group is famous for invading Empire City at one point against natives; also noteworthy is their invasion of several regions in Royals, including Forelis, Maximus, and Bayson. Schattreiter was said to originate by being reborn into a Bösepenst, like most humanoid types. The story of Schattreiter's origin is that he, once a young man, was tricked by a Bösepenst from Forelis to wonder into the woods at night; the Unmen, a disguised woman, waited for the human to die, which would happen happened four days later. When the Unmen came to devour the young man, he was on his last straw of life before being completely devoured in one gulp. Not accepting his fate as prey to Unmen, his rage gave him power to be reborn as a Bösepenst; it is said the young man's long hair froze side ways facing south, an omen that is said to be bad luck (wind gusts heading south). It is also worth noting one tale says the length of Schattreiter increases ever one-hundred years. As an Unmen, Schattreiter decided to live his life freely and as he pleased -- leading him to develop a criminal mentality and a stroke to his already large ego. Schattreiter however had the disposition of being human still, so interacting with both humans came naturally; Schattreiter got along with Unmen nicely as well, not blaming them for his death and subsequent rebirth, but blaming it on the individual Unmen that tried to kill him.

Schattreiter was often blamed for stolen merchandise; stolen possessions, riches, and food were also blamed to be its work. Dark shades and pitch-black tunnels were also said to be a portal to its dwelling. Especially dark nights were often tell tale that Schattreiter was in the area. Dogs and other animals were said to react when Schattreiter got too close; animals relying on their instincts and other senses did not need to see or necessarily hear Schattreiter to detect its presence. Schattreiter's fame and legend are what is said to have brought him high standing in the Homeland; it was sometimes praised and worshiped to like a deity and Schattreiter even has a shrine erected in the capital as a sign of respect -- a feat that very few Bösepenst have ever achieved.
