Sebastian Jonathan Barnes is the **th and current President of the United Federation of Nations. Before entering politics, Barnes served in the Federation Diplomatic Service, joining on 4 June 1977 after graduing Suma Cum Laude from Stanford University, enjoying a highly successful career culminating in being appointed Federation Special Envoy to the State of Malta on 12 January 1990. Barnes was instrumental in completing the decades long process of beining Malta into the Federation, which was finalised by the end of 1990. After several more high ranking positions, Barnes was elected as the Federation Councilor from the Republic of California in 1996, almost immediatly facing a challenge as Malta was threatened. Barnes was one of the best known members of the Federation Council, and it surprised no one when Barnes was appointed as Secretary of the Exterior by President Edward Faulkner in 2010

Barnes was fully supportive of President Faulkner's efforts to grow the Federation's global influence and links, with a few to expanding the Federation's membership in the long run. Although no new member-states joined during this period, much to Faulkner's disappointment, Barnes's work and the network of Federation Special Envoys appointed, laid the foundations in many parts of the world. It was this sense, that the work that he and President Faulkner had started remained unfinished, that prompted Barnes to announce his candidacy for the Presidenency in late 2016. Barnes was seen by many as the personification of the Federation's ideals and as such, although he faced competition from Nathaniel Cartwright, Federation Councillor from Texas, who was seen as far more of a pragmatic sort, he was favoured by the electorate and won the 2018 Presidential Election.
