Biography

Early life

John Franklin was born on 28 November, 1973, in Halvergate, Acronius, to Helen and William Franklin, a teacher and a car mechanic respectively. He was brought up alongside two older brothers, Callum and Stephen, as well as a younger sister, Rose. From an early age, he showed a great interest and a strong aptitude in learning, and was described as a gifted student even in elementary school. Known as a cheerful, youthful boy, he was an avid fan of Cypress Hills FC, an Acronian football team.

However, Franklin's life took a drastic change in 1988, when his two brothers were killed in action in the Casaran Islands, and his sister was kidnapped by unknown individuals mere weeks later. His grades dropped to mediocre standards as his father, who had turned to alcohol to rid himself of his worries, began to abuse his mother. Franklin also turned to alcohol as well as cigarettes soon later, and isolated himself from social contact. He dropped out of high school when he was in eleventh grade, and enlisted in the Acronian Infantry Force aged 17, with parental consent given by his mother, who divorced Franklin's father soon after.

Career Service

Casaran Uprising

Franklin enlisted in the Infantry Force at 17 years old in 1990, after dropping out of high school in the same year. He successfully completed Basic Combat Training at Fort Crowe, reportedly graduating with a final score of 897/1000. He was assigned to the 27th Infantry Regiment as a Private, and was subsequently deployed along with the unit to the Casaran Islands as part of the Acronian task force sent to battle in the Casaran Uprising. He was placed under the command of Lt. Karl Robles, who would go on to become a household name in the Infantry Force.

After the Casaran Soldiery betrayed the Acronians at Georgetown, Lt. Robles ordered his platoon to stay in the city in order to evacuate citizens, directly defying orders from his commanding officer, Col. Roland Lellouche, who would later go on to become the 23rd President of the Free Union of Acronius.

After over 24 hours, Robles' platoon was nearly completely overwhelmed. Apart from himself, only Pvt. Franklin and two other soldiers later identified through amateur footage as Cpl. Garth Bruce and Ssgt. Evan Gurevich remained. Robles was killed in action soon after, followed by Bruce and Gurevich. After receiving a knife wound inflicted by Casarani militants, Franklin was able to narrowly escape Georgetown alone by navigating through the city sewers with the help of a compass, and limp back to the Acronian base of operations on the island, Ronin Hill.

He saw small-scale action in the Battle of Corseront later on in the war, where he was promoted to the rank of Corporal, and did not see any more action on the islands after December 1991. He was awarded the Casaran Islands Service Medal, the Wounded in Action Medal, and received an Infantry Force Commendation as well as a Distinguished Service Medal.

1990s

Following his service in the Casaran Uprising, Franklin was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Still stationed at Fort Crowe, he received an Elite Infantry Citation in 1994, aged 21 - making him one of the youngest people to be cited. Franklin was transferred to the 22nd Alpha Warfare Group Regiment of the Elite Infantry Force in the same year, while simultaneously being promoted to the rank of Staff sergeant. Franklin completed the rigorous Alpha Warfare Group training course, and made it out of selection. He was, and still is stationed at the Alpha Warfare Group Training Compound in Truffordville, South Aegrus, Acronius.

First Rekovian War

Ssgt. Franklin was sent to the United Socialist States of Stasnov and the Holy Republic of Rekovia in the First Rekovian War, under the command of Cpt. Stanley Cornew, in 1999. Cpt. Cornew's platoon comprised the entirety of Acronian forces deployed during the conflict. The platoon's mission, codenamed Operation Purple Aurora, along with its objective, remains classified, but Cpt. Cornew was confirmed to have been critically wounded in action, despite the mission's success.
