The Inter-Charnean Army, or ICA is the collective name and joint command structure for the combined military forces of the states and tribal coalitions of the Charnean Confederacy. It has been in existence since the formal reunification of Charnea on the 25th of February, 1790, wherin the founding states of the Confederacy ceded conditional command of their military forces to the Amenukal of the new nation. The ICA has seen many forms in its lifespan, ranging from an only nominally united coalition of distinct military forces of its affiliate tribes to a highly centralized western style three branch military. In its current state, the ICA is divided between centrally organized forces which secure the central government territories of the Confederacy and conduct peacetime military operations as well as preparatory logistical and supply concerns, and the wide array of affiliate forces and State armies which are called up for service automatically when the Confederacy enters a state of war, either by vote or by foreign aggression.
The centrally controlled components of the military, which are known as the Capital Forces due to the total control of Agnannet over these martial organs, consist primarily of the Ranger Corps, the Inter-Charnean Army Airforce (ICAA) and the Inter-Charnean Army Riverine and Maritime Units (ICA-RMU), in addition to a variety of support organizations such as the ICA Procurement Bureau and the Logistics Corps which serve to arm and supply both Capital Forces and their state counterparts the Component Forces with war material more efficiently. The central ICA effectively functions as an umbrella organization under which serve the many state militaries, many of which have their own command structures and support organizations of their own. The Charnean military has been described as a skeletal system, possessing everything necessary to prosecute an armed conflict or necessary deployment save the manpower or the "meat on its bones", which is brought up and organized from the constituent states as the need arises.
While some Charnean constituent states maintain fully functional armies that are manned, paid and supplied entirely by local authorities in peacetime, many Charnean states are lacking in sufficient population or finances to support such a formation on their own. These states, typically corresponding to the tribal federations of the arid northern regions of Charnea, instead form coalition forces within the Confederacy itself as a sort of subordinate interstate affiliation, where numerous small tribal entities combine their tribe's militias to collectively fund and man a more adequate military force to protect the territory of all the signatory tribes, not unlike the structure of the wider Charnean Confederacy and the ICA itself.

Structure
The ICA is under the sole command of the Amenukal of Charnea, the head of state and an office distinct from the civilian government. The primary duties of the Amenukal are martial, specifically the maintenance of the joint command structure into which the constituent forces are merged into during a conflict. In recent decades, this role has also led to the development and specialization of a wide array of special organizations within the Capital Forces, which not only meet the peacetime needs of the Charnean central government, but also and more importantly aid in the cooperation and joint deployment of constituent forces through the standardization of equipment and logistical practices, as well as the operation officer training schools to aid more directly in coordination between different militias and affiliate groups during a deployment.
