Gapolania in the Euclovision Song Contest
2021

Gapolania will participate in the Euclovision Song Contest 2021 in Lavelle, Gaullica. The Gapolanese entry for the 2021 contest will be chosen by through the national selection Festival della Canzione, an annual competition format organized by the national broadcaster Radiotelevisione Gapolania (RTG), which will consists of two semi-finals on 21 and 28 February and a final on 7 March 2021.

Background

Prior to the 2021 contest, Gapolania had participated in the contest 21 times, making its debut in 1995. Festival della Canzione was a prominent music festival organized since 1981, an established cultural event that served as a tool to promote new artists and Gapolanese music. Starting in 1996, the winner of the festival was also granted a possibility to represent the country in the Euclovision Song Contest, though twice, in 1997 and 2001, the winners declined. Gapolanese choices achieved different results in the contest - the country managed to end in the Top 10 on three times but also failed to qualify for the final on several occasions. The nation has yet to win the contest.

Before Euclovision

Festival della Canzone 2021

Festival della Canzone 2021 will be the 40th edition of the annual festival. It traditionally took place in Zeta, however, since 2011, the organization of the festival was moved every year. This year's festival will take place in Nuova Accadia.

Format

The format of the competition will consist of three shows: two semi-finals on 21 and 28 of February and a final on 7 March 2021. Each semi-final will feature ten artists, of whom five will advance to the final show. The qualifiers and the winner are determined by a combination of televote and jury votes. Televote consist of SMS and internet voting, while the jury members will be chosen by the RTG from the national and international established artists, musicians and journalists.

It is not mandatory for an artist to be a Gapolanese citizen - in that case, their song's composer(s) must come from Gapolania instead. Performers are allowed to send in songs in either Vespasian or Chanuche language - usage of other languages is allowed as long as the lyrics in that language comply with Euclovision rules and do not constitute for more than half of the all lyrics. The national broadcaster received 535 submissions by the end of December 2020, shortlisting the candidates to 20 entries, revealed on 2 February 2021. Their songs will be later.
