The Storsnian Defence Forces (Storsne: Storsne Puolustusvoimat) or SDF are the armed forces of the United Republic of Storsnia. Under the command of the Ministry of Defense the SDF is responsible for defending Storsnia. The SDF was formed in 1920 following the victory of the Liberal Democrat Front in the Storsnian Civil War. However, the Defense Forces can trace it's roots back to the various tribal militaries before the Storsne Confederacy. The SDF primarily serves a defensive purpose defending the nation from outside threats. The Defense Forces are made up of three branches: the National Guard (Maavartija), the Air Guard (Ilmansuoja), and the Coast Guard (Rannikkovartiosto). The National Guard is the largest of the three branches and is responsible for guarding the border and other land-based threats. The Coast Guard is primarily tasked with protecting Storsnian maritime trade interests. The Air Guard is the smallest of the three branches and mostly serves to assist the other branches.
The Defense Forces are under command of the Ministry of Defense. The Minister of Defense acts as commander-in-cheif of the Defense Forces under the authority of the Chamber of Representatives. Underneath the Minister of Defense are the individual commanders of the three branches.
