Malcolm Cavanah is current speaker of the house and secretary of the Liberal Party. Speaker of the house is meant to be an impartial position but is currently used to silence opposition parties and allow government ministers time to push through legislation. Malcolm Cavanah was born in 1979 in Une Para to a family of three sisters and a single mother. Cavanah joined the Youth Greens when he was 16. When he was 18 he ran for County Assembly with the Green Party. He served a term as CA and then decided to run for MHP. He lost in the 2000 election 71% to 29%. Cavanah then resigned from the Green Party and ran as a Liberal in the 2004 snap election, he won becoming one of the youngest MHP's at the time at age 25. Cavanah served as minister for sport in the Liberal government of 2006 - 2009 before returning to the opposition. During the CNP's decade rule Cavanah made
