Background

On April 4, 1972, several Kaoroan officers in the army conspired and overthrew the government in Kaoro City, and on the same day declared the People's Federal Socialist States of Kaoro. The new government quickly began a crackdown on civil rights and free speech. They also quickly attempted to silence the 14 states of the Country, some who attempted to rebel against the new government. A few months into the new governmental rule, Mundean politician Alec Pagalo, who was already pretty positive with the new regime traveled to Kaoro City to talk with the central government. He wanted help to overthrow the Mundean government and force new rule. The government, who also trusted him, agreed to the idea. The Mundean Liberation Army (MLA) was formed as a military wing of Pagalo's party, the Mundean Liberation Party.

Coup d'etat

On January 21, 1973, the Central government sent a series of messages to the Mundean government, demanding them to temporarily suspend their police and military force for the next 2 weeks. The Mundean government, hearing of previous instances of the central government cracking down on state governments for not obeying orders, complied almost immediately. The next day, the MLA, who were hiding in a small remote town close to the Mundean capital of Dakota, armed with tanks from the government, took over key governmental buildings in the city and arrested the former leaders of the government. The Mundean army scrambled to form but since they were supposed to be on break, they didn't expect the event and weren't able to defend themselves from the assault. By the next day, the city was completely owned by the MLA.

Mid-fighting, the MLA was able to take over the broadcaster of Radio Munde, the state's largest station in the area. They broadcasted a message declaring the Mundean People's Republic, as a socialist state for the greater development of Munde. The only recordings of this broadcast are have audible gunfire and explosions in the background.

Societal changes

Even with a Federal crackdown, life seemed almost normal except for a lack of liberties in states in the early months of the new Kaoroan regime. However, with the MPR taking control of the government, life in Munde quickly changed.

Propaganda

Propaganda become a major factor, with most TV channels, even some entertainment channels, almost had some sort of promotion of the Mundean government. Alec Pagalo began developing a cult of personality around himself and his family, and he was considered the most important figure of the Mundean regime, not just a figurehead, but the one who ran the most important parts of the government. Posters appeared of him and his wife, a white silhouette on a background of green (The color green was considered almost "holy" to the regime). A massive statue of him was erected in Dakota's Star Square, which remained until it was demolished by protestors during the Mundean Revolution.
