Zaihan (Zaihanese: 子罕 Zǐhǎn) is a sovereign state located in eastern Oridia and on the Liangdao archipelago. Bordered by Evengia and Sarangol to the north, Kataia to the west, and Samho to the south, the country's coastline gives it access to the !Pacific Ocean. Zaihan's 1.1 billion inhabitants reside primarily in the eastern coastal region and in the capital Daohai. The country is divided into 14 provinces and four municipalities, which collectively contain 789 districts.
Ruled by warring dynasties and cliques until the War of Two Summers in the 900s, Zaihan was created as a kingdom ruled by the Yao dynasty, taking over the Liangdao archipelago in the 1100s. Establishing a colonial empire by expanding south into Samho and Yachen, the country remained relatively stable until its involvement in the Great War on the side of the Allianz. The imperial government fell during the Republican Revolution in 1947 and the country withdrew from the war shortly thereafter. The Republican forces battled the Communists and the monarchists in the ensuing civil war. The Republicans proclaimed victory in 1953, authoring a new constitution that established Zaihan as a democratic republic.
The country is a unitary presidential republic and is often characterized as a developing country and a flawed democracy. Despite decades of stagnation after the fall of the imperial government, the economy was rebuilt following the death of its first President, Ming Sui-Yen. Zaihan is a founding member of the East Oridian Conference and the Congress of Nations. The country is constitutionally neutral, albeit maintains a Template:Armed Forces of Zaihan.
Etymology
The word "Zaihan" originates from a portmanteau of the Zaihanese words Zài hǎishàng (在海上), meaning "on the sea".
