New Roheau Gallis (Markian: Nei Rojan Gallei, also known as N.R.G.), or the Republic of New Roheau Gallis, is a country located in Kennonia. It consists of 19 provinces, a federal district and four major unincorporated territories. It is considered a medium sized nation. It shares maritime borders with Antonder, and a 4300 kilometer long land border with Ridoga. With a population of 439 million, it is one of the worlds most populated countries. The capital and economic hub of the Republic of New Roheau Gallis is Rovajina-Leste, a city that is more than 1500 years old and has a cultural and archeological importance that can be traced to the first men of the world.

The first markian settlements emerged surrounding what today is the Ballis-Coinna Basin in lower Narces sometime around 4600 years ago. It is believed that this coincided with one of the last great ice ages of the world, which severely shifted the temperature of the poles making it warmer in the northern hemisphere and thus Kennonia, allowing for sedentary lifestyles to emerge in the area of Greater Markos. The first notions of recorded history in Kennonia date from the Ballis-Coinna Basin. Beginning roughly around the year 1240 BCE, records start appearing detailing mass migrations of northern men (Today believed to be the first roheauns) into the Ballis-Coinna Basin and it's surrounding areas. It is believed that these men migrated south in seek of refuge from the rescinding ice age that had started to frost in the northern hemisphere once more, eventually settling near the Greater Markos area due to it's abundance of natural resources and the relatively peaceful tribals already living there. The cultural exchange resulting of this great migration led to what is today known as the age of enlightenment, a period of time in which arts and sciences quickly developed across Markos giving free rein to new structures of government, writing and belief to rise. Eventually, these different groups of peoples started uniting under petty chiefdoms in the latter stages of the age of enlightenment, until finally a mythological man by the name of Theodoric the Great unified all of the tribes in the roheaun half of the Ballis-Coinna Basin, later on launching a Great Zepra against the proto-gallisians and proto-krádans in order to fully unify the basin and the rest of Greater Markos. This ended up leading to the formation of the First Markian Empire after the end of the Great Zepra in 122 CE, which signaled the first fully consolidified trans-markian state in recorded history.

Whilst greatly efficient through most of it's history, the brutalist ideology and staunchly conservative neo-feudal society of the Markian Empire ended up leading to a period of stagnation known as the Plagued Century, which during most of the XIX century saw the empire be battered time and time again by foreign aggressors as well as face immense internal pressure by elements advocating for reform and change. This would eventually implode in the Great Markian Revolution, a 3 year long civil war which pitted all sides of the political spectrum against each other beginning with Parliament's disavowal of Emperor Ludan I during a moment known to historians as the 14 days. Amidst the chaos of the Great Markian Revolution, the charismatic colonel of the 1st Regiment of Narces, Huistin Kob, rose to prominance due to his political and military genius which led him to score massive victories in favor of the Republican Polity that dominated Parliament. He advocated for the principles of socialism, military empowerment and duty to the state as well as roheaun nationalism, all of which made him extremely popular across the middle to lower class of the primarily roheaun-dominated Markian society. He also advocated for Markian Revanchism in order to restore national control over territories that had partitioned from the Markian Empire during the Revolution such as Antonder and Ridoga. Kob was in large part the arbiter of the modern Markian state and society, and a profound sponsor of social welfare, democracy and Markian Socialism (Also known as Kobism). He founded the United Markos Party, which dominated elections all the way until 1983 when it suffered its first major defeat in the 1983 Presidential Elections when candidate Anton Garzi of the Forward with Solidarity Party, a centre-right party founded predominantly by ex-kobists, won with 46.3% of the popular vote. Since then, the Markian Society has experienced a period of economic liberalization, political upheaval and civil turmoil as tensions between Kobist loyalists and Reformists reach all time highs.

The government of the Republic of New Roheau Gallis is a Federal Parliamentary Republic divided in three branches of government, and despite having been through a period of modernization it is still one very much engrained with the ideals of Kobism and Markian Socialism as the principles of it's foundations. It has a bicameral national legislature composed of the Prezi Lendsraat and the Laban Lendsraat as the upper and lower houses respectively, with the Lendskommier serving as the legislative body and convening assembly of the nation. The government is highly centralized, and the federal legislature holds a great amount of power over provincial affairs. N.R.G. ranks highly on measures such as the Human Development Index, income and wealth, economic competitiveness, innovation and education; despite this, it has slightly above average levels of perceived corruption, and one of the highest economic disparity rates of the world which has severely skyrocketed and been aggravated since the economic reforms of 1984. Having been shaped by a plethora of different cultures –both native and foreign–, N.R.G. is a melting pot of different cultures, ideologies and ethnicities loosely banded together under the principles of loyalty and duty to the state as well as a historical adherance to authoritarianism by part of previous governments.

Etymology

The name of New Roheau Gallis was first used to describe the "new state" following the 1983 Election by news broadcaster Julian Embod, who stated "This signifies a new monumental achievement for the furthering of our nation; a nation not of roheauns, or gallisians, or krádans, or antonderians; a nation born anew from the flames of centuries of authoritarianism; a new roheau and a new gallis.", officially being adopted in 1986 following the proclamation of the new republic by Prezi Primir Anton Garzi.

Despite this, the names of many different cultures and areas comprising Greater Markos have a shared ancestry that can be traced to the first migrations during the late ice ages. Markos in on itself means "the Marked Men", hailing from proto-antonderian societies during the Markonian Consolidation of the early I and II centuries. It is theorized that the proto-antonderians inhabiting Antonder Isle prior and during the Markonian Consolidation gave the name "Marked Men" (or Markar) to early Markians invading the isle, as during the reigns of early kings of the consolidation Markian fighters used extremely distinctive war paints in order to differentiate them during the heat of battle. It is no surprise then that the name eventually stuck as the Antonderian class of merchants and navigators made their way across the Markian Sea.

The names of the different sub-cultures can as well be traced to the early to late stages of the Markonian Consolidation; roheaun came as a bastardization of rojan, initially being rohan and later on being gallisified into roheaun. The rojans are believed to be the first inhabitants of the Roja Plateau, north of the Ballis-Coinna Basin, and many historians as well as archeologists agree that the rojans were the original "northernmen" of which the ancient gallisian scriptures talk. The etymology of the name for the gallisians is harder to determine, as it is unknown exactly when they arrived at the region of Greater Markos or if they were the original inhabitants of it. It is believed the term was coined some time around the latter years of the Great Migration and the beginning of the Markonian Consolidation by roheauns that had begun inhabiting the Ballis-Coinna Basin as a deritative from the word for basin (Balium) in gallisian, which eventually got translated to Galin in proto-roheaun, and then to Gallis.

The origin of the names for the Antonderian and Ridogan people came much later, the first records detailing the name Antonder for the island (and the people inhabiting therein) appearing roughly around the year 369 CE; historians are almost unanimously in accordance that the name traces it's source to Anton Rock, which was named in honor to the first sea captain to venture into the Antonderian Isles, Antoni of Zeubaret, who first landed in Anton Rock in the year 320 CE. Anton Rock thus got expanded to Antonder (From Antón in ancient roheaun) when naming the full isle and as the topographic and cartographic research of the island increased and new maps were released the name simply stuck. Ridoga and the ridogan people come expressly from the ancient Krádan Rido Garan or "Northern Kin", as it was believed at the time the first ridogans started appearing in the north of Markos that they were ancient brethren of the roheauns.
