Rashid Markhayev Baig is the incumbent head of government of Gurkaniyan, holding the dual title of Khalifa and Chancellor. A longtime politician and proponent of the establishment of Gurkaniyan, Markhayev served for 25 years in the Majlis ash-Shura before becoming Khalifa and Chancellor in 2017. Markhayev is a member of the conservative Gurkani Clerical Alliance, belonging to its more pragmatic and nationalist faction.
