Novika is a city located in the province of Suurilaakso, located in central Valkea. It has a population of 523,528 within the municipality, 616,463 within the urban area, and 1,027,650 within the metropolitan area. It is the second largest urban area and the third largest city in Valkea, after the cities of Källälivi and Vuornaa. Novika is one of the most important economic and cultural centers in Valkea.
Permanent settlement in the area dates as far back as the 8th century. The city started as a manorial town in the 14th century, belonging to the historic province of < name >. Novika quickly grew during the Industrial Revolution, becoming a major market town and industrial center and absorbing several nearby villages.
