Eskavia (Eskavian: Eskävit), officially the Eskavian Confederacy (Eskavian: Kopläjukvo Eskävit), is a sovereign state in Elia Boreal. It lies between the Free States to the X and the Alconian Ocean to the west.
Human habitation in Eskavia dates from approximately 12,000 years ago. The Attap civilization emerged along the Sivo River during the 16th century BCE, making the region one of the world's 7 independent cradles of civilization. The Attap were followed by the Mjetlumak, Plakossu, and Eskavian societies, with the Eskavians ultimately dominating the region by the year 1000 CE. At its zenith between the 11th and mid-14th centuries, Classical Eskavia was a flourishing center of science and culture in the Elias,sophisticated earthworks, a well-developed road netwok. Beginning in the X century AD, a period of political consilidation resulted in the formation of the Eskavian Empire, which ruled most of the region by the mid-11th century. . The Confederacy maintained its independence through the early colonial era as a result of diplomacy and rapid Calesianization. Eskavians were among the first native Elian peoples to convert en masse to Gregorianism, a process aided significantly by their advanced system of communication between communities. Eskavian leaders successfully exploited imperial competition between the Calesian powers, establishing strategic partnerships in order to preserve the balance of power in Elia Boreal. Following the conclusion of the Twelve Years' War in 1785, Eskavia was brought under the protection of Waldrich in an effort to counter the rising influence of Falland and the Free States in the region.
