The RMB-90 Modular Anti-Armor/Structure System (MAASS) is a Meridonian 85mm multirole shoulder-fired recoilless rifle, developed by Damean Industrial Group for the Meridon Defense Forces. Replacing older Great-War era surplus and upgrades, the RMB-90 was developed to provide a one-size-fits-all solution for tactical level, manportable, infantry assault and antitank support weapon systems. The RMB-90 is unique in its weight and size reduction measures, including the canisterization of its rounds, allowing for rapid reloading and a relatively compact size. It has proved durable and popular in the Defense Forces and is a staple of all infantry-level formations.
Overview
MAASS is a 85mm recoilless rifle system split into a gun firing unit, or simply gun unit, and round canisters. The gun unit consists of the rifled launch tube, trigger and grip assembly, picatinny mounts with iron sights, breech mount, and side-barrel spotting rifle system. The picatinny mount normally fits a purpose-built 4x magnification day optic, but can also fit most compatible scopes and sights including night vision and thermal optics. The spotting rifle is mounted to the right hand side of the rifle and fires a ballistically-matched and specially-produced cartridge that is used to help guide gunners onto targets before engaging with an actual round. Later variants include a detachable electronic ballistic computer which includes a laser rangefinder linked to an enhanced day/night optic to allow for ranging and adjustment prior to the expenditure of a spotting or actual round. 85mm rounds are provided in canisterized containers that affix directly to the rear of the gun unit and are discarded after every use.
MASS fields a wide variety of rounds to fit with its multirole purpose.
