Kirby I (9 May 1932 - 6 April 2005) was Grand Archduke of Sel Appa from 1956 until his death in 2005. He was considered the greatest leader of Sel Appa, guiding it into the 21st Century and the 3rd Millennium.
Biography
Early Life
Grand Archduke Kirby I was born 9 May 1932 to Prince Alex IV and Princess Arielle. He was the grandchild of then Grand Archduke Alex III. Kirby was a fast learner. At age 2, he could read and do some math. In school, he was a top student, earning many awards. He competed in several geography, history, and spelling bees. He won almost all of them. He graduated from high school as Salutatorian (not making Valedictorian thanks to a Chinese immigrant). In college, he excelled in history, law, and government. After college, he began carrying out his duties as heir to the throne. On his 22nd birthday, he married his second cousin, Sarah.
Reign
Unfortunately in 1956, his father, Grand Archduke Alex IV, died of pneumonia. At age 24, Kirby was crowned Grand Archduke. Since then, he has stabilized Sel Appa's economy, made many allies, and prevented several wars. He is approved by nearly all of Sel Appa. Even enemies of Sel Appa respect his leadership. In 1964, Queen Sarah gave birth to Prince Kirby II. Three years later, twins Princesses Sarah II and Arielle II were born.
He was ousted along with the Sel Appan government led by Vladimir Leno on 31 January 2005, and Sel Appa became a socialist nation.
An assassination attempt landed him in the hospital on 9 February 2005. After being in a coma for several weeks, he died 6 April 2005, three hours after Parliament had restored the Grand Archduchy. The socialist government was widely blamed, but never officially implicated, being in control. It was not until François Tourmont became chancellor that an inquiry looked into the assassination in 2012, however the case was cold and the investigation wrapped up after two years inconclusive, unable to connect or clear Leno and his supporters.
Legacy
Few other Grand Archdukes have matched him as a leader. In fact, only his great-grandmother Alexa V earned higher than a 90% approval rating as he did. He earned over 98%. Sel Appans were still distraught with their great leaders death for many years. He left a huge mark on Sel Appa during his 49-year reign. Modernization was a big idea he had that his father Alex IV didn't push much. It was Kirby who sought out the money to make sure every family had a television and a radio in the beginning. When computers became publicly available, he advertised them and gave subsidies to manufacturers to keep prices low.
He pushed for the banning of all drugs and alcohol. He even put in a provision that allowed wine and beer to be used religiously and could only be bought from a religious organization. In the beginning of the ban, he fought hard to keep smuggled drugs out and it worked quickly. Demand for drugs dropped dramatically and was very minimal after 1965. It is unlikely that anyone else will be able to overpass him, or even match up to him for the great things he achieved were related to the most major changes of all time.
