Etymology
History
Antiquity
The first archeologic traces of settlemnet in Nordhavn, originating in 9000 BC, have been found in the city of Isedal in the northern part of Nordhavn near the region of Iskysten ("Ice coast"), where likely explorers from -- (TBA) came in search of new fertile land to escape the poverty of their home country. What bolstered the settler's succesfull attempts was the thawing of the Nord iceberg after the first ice age, which happenned around 5000 BC, leading to influx of population which explored more and more south in order to find viable living conditions. By 4000 BC all of Nordhavn has been in some form settled, altough the density of population likely did not surpass 10 people / km² (the equivalent of two families per kilometer), withthe exceptions being slowly emerging towns near coast and in the fertile lands of Børdalen ("Fertile valley"), Åkerlyst ("Field of plenty") or Livsmark ("Land of life").
In early the 7th century, the city states came to the Favtalen om felles mål (in English "the common goal agreement"), the essence of which was that each of the six city-states would contribute to the building of a fleet for the purpose of exploring and undertaking raids.
