Jacques Dufour (D) was elected President of the Republic of Duquesne following the assassination of President Lawrence C. Perrier, and the subsequent resignation of Vice President Francois-Jacobiue. The resignation of Vice President Francois-Jacobiue resulted in a special election which pinned then Distributist candidate Dufour with the Populist candidate Christopher A-La-Guarde, which resulted in a 1 vote victory for President Dufour in the Duquesne National Assembly.
