The City of Riverside, commonly known as Riverside, is the capital city of West Aurelia. When West Aurelia gained self-governing status from Coldwater in 1823, Riverside was designed a national administrative district, outside the control of any state. This was done to prevent the influence of the capital's politics by residents of a state or its government. The designation was kept after West Aurelia gained independence in 1903. On a national level, it is treated as equal to the 28 states, with its mayor and local assembly taking up the role of state governors and senates, respectively. It is the third most populous city in West Aurelia with 2 million residents.

As West Aurelia's seat of government, it is home to the Stamford House, Senate House, Supreme Court Building, and the headquarters of most national government departments and agencies. It also hosts embassies of foreign countries and intergovernmental organizations.

An elected mayor and the 12-member City of Riverside Assembly are responsible for the city's governance. Riverside also provides six senators to the Senate.

The city is bordered by the state of New Harmony to the north and east and the state of Chadstone to the south and west.
