The Uong Sanam Mu-39 is a Quenminese single-seat, twin-engine multirole air superiority fighter aircraft derived from the Imperial Arada Mu-37. It was designed in 17 June 1998 by the Imperial aircraft company Arada, and Quenminese companies Uong Xuyen Heavy Industries and the Sanam Group, and manufactured by the latter two in a joint venture since 2002. From its predecessor, Quenminese aerospace engineers improved the structural faults of the Mu-37.
When the Arada Mu-35 was developed in 2008, research was undertaken to augment its thrust-vectoring capabilities. Subsequently, in 2015, a new variant of the Mu-39 was introduced, the Mu-39NH, which is designed to compete against the Mu-35.
