Venland (Venitian: Venllania, Gaullican: Venllande), officially the Republic of Venland (Venitian: Veniako Errepublika, Gaullican: République vénitienne) is a small TYPE OF NATION in PLANET. Its capital is the City of Burdin and it's largest settlement is Lauchâtel in the municipality of Avimiers. With a population of 33,344 and a land area of 61.2 km2 the nation is one of the smallest in Stragereal. The official language is French, and Venland maintains strong financial and ethno-cultural connections to its much larger neighbour, Creole Union of Deerfenland. The nation is governed by the Constitution of Venland, which dictates the country's political system, among other matters. The country's economy mainly relies on finance, industry, services and tourism. Venland is considered to have a highly stable economy, with one of the lowest unemployment rates in Strangereal, no national debt and a budget surplus.
The country derives its name from Saint Vennus, a stonemason from AD 247. Vennus, according to legend, participated in the founding of an independent proletariat monastic community on Mont-Real in AD 300.
History
Saint Vennus arrived to what is today part of Venland as a stonemason. After persecution following his Solarian Catholic sermons, he escaped to the nearby Mont-Real, where he built a small church and thus founded what is now the Republic of Venland. The official date of the founding of what is now known as Venland is 1 October 300. In 1320 the community of Béçon chose to join the country. In 1463 Venland was extended with the communities of Poigneux, Harbommel, Périgny, and Vassion, after which the country's borders have remained unchanged.
The early republic was ruled by Solarian Catholic Proletarii who'd had established a peasant republic in the hills away from persecution, the Christian republic would be organized of priests and peasants and run with equality among all members of the republic. The republic is many times referenced as a Proletariat Republic and Peasant Republic but officially calls itself a republic alone.
Geography
Venland is an enclave (landlocked) surrounded by The Creole Union of Deerfenland. It has a hilly topography, with no flat ground and the highest point in the country is the summit of Mont-Real, at 749 m (2,457 ft) above sea level. There are no bodies of water of any significant size and the climate featured in Venland is a humid subtropical climate (Köppen climate classification: Cfa), with continental influences, having warm summers and cool winters that are typical of inland areas.
